Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to construct and operate a 9.9 hectare quarry and a 700 metre access road adjacent to existing quarries that are located at the end of Granny Till Road, off Route 60, near Seal Cove.  The proposed quarry will be located within the municipal boundary of St. John’s.  The operation will consist of excavation and removal of sand and gravel deposits using excavators and loaders, with the material being trucked to the proponent’s concrete plant near the Manuels Bypass Road for crushing and washing.   Construction of the quarry is expected to begin in May 2016 and take three weeks to complete.    The quarry is expected to operate for approximately five years.
