Project Description:

The proponent proposes to expand its limestone and dolomite mining lease(s) near Lower Cove and Sheaves Cove on the Port au Port Peninsula in Western Newfoundland.  The proposed expansion totals an area of 754 hectares to the north and northwest of their current operations and will be in the White Hills and Mainland areas. The expansion is to gain access to future high calcium limestone reserves adjacent to its current mining lease for an estimated 45-50 years of future reserves.

  • January 26, 2015 - The undertaking was registered.
  • March 3 , 2015 - Deadline for public comments.
  • March 12,  2015 - The Minister’s decision is due.
  • March 20, 2015 - The Minister's decision is extended.
  • March 27, 2015 - The Minister's decision is due.
  • May 6, 2015 - The Minister announced that an EIS is required and the Project is withdrawn.
