Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent has submitted a proposal to construct and operate a 123 MW (Nominal) Combustion Turbine (CT) Generator at the Holyrood Thermal Generating Station (HTGS) yard in Holyrood. The CT unit will be enclosed in a building structure approximately 56 metres long by 31 metres wide by 11 metres high. The Project will also involve a generator step-up (GSU) transformer, the storage of 2.5 million litres of No. 2 diesel fuel, related offloading and handling facilities, a demineralized water plant and storage as well as interconnection to the existing HTGS. Another building section will enclose the demineralized water tanks, approximately 12 metres long by 11 metres high. The stack height will be approximately 15 metres. The additional generation added by this infrastructure is intended to meet forecasted load requirements during high peak winter demand periods prior to the completion of the Lower Churchill Project.

  • June 9, 2014 - The minister’s decision is due.
  • June 27, 2014 - The minister announced that the project is released.
