Gill Mine Re-activation

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

Labrador Iron Mines is proposing to re-activate and mine an ore deposit on the Gill property, located in the western central part of the Labrador Trough Iron Range. Ore will excavated from an open pit and trucked approximately 500 metres to the existing Silver Yard beneficiation plant. Ore will be prepared for “direct shipping”, via crushing, washing, screening and gravity separation. Processed ore will be transported by rail to Sept Iles, Quebec, from where it will be shipped to market. Mining will progress from less than 3000 tonnes per day and will peak at 7,000-10,000 tonnes per day. Construction and production are anticipated to commence in 2014.

  • October 7, 2013 - The undertaking was registered.
  • November 20, 2013 - Deadline for public comments.
  • November 28, 2013 - The minister’s decision is due.
  • March 6, 2014 - The Minister announced that the project is released.
