Harvest Amendment – Crown Five Year Operating Plan FMD 2,5,7,9, & 14

Proponent: Forestry and Agrifoods Agency

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

This project details an amendment to the current Five Year Operating Plan for Forestry Management Districts 2,5,7,9 and 14. The amendment concerns the eradication program at the above five locations to prevent the build-up and spread of the European strain of Scleroderris Canker. Scleroderris Canker is a invasive tree disease that is particularly fatal to red pine and is capable of killing trees of all age classes. Eradication will be conducted after sites are assessed by Regional/District staff to determine the most appropriate harvest methods to be used. All harvesting equipment will be steam cleaned on site following operations to prevent any movement of spores on equipment to other parts of the province.
