Bay D'Espoir Highway Fish Mortality Collection and Equipment Storage Yard

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent intends to operate a fish mortality collection facility and an equipment storage yard near the exit to Pool’s Cove and Belleoram on Route 360. Fish carcasses, from fish farms in the Coast of Bays region, will be trucked to the facility and transferred to a container truck for transport to a composting facility in Corner Brook. Tubs used to transport the fish from the fish farms will then be disinfected using a steam pressure washer. Effluent will be discharged to the ground. Construction is proposed to begin in the fall of 2012, upon receipt of all required permits and approvals.

  • October 10, 2012 - The undertaking was registered.
  • November 15, 2012 - Public comments are due.
  • November 24, 2012 - The Minister's decision is due.
  • March 22, 2013 - The Minister announced that the project is released.
