Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent has submitted a proposal to construct 34 kilometres of roads in western Labrador in order to facilitate diamond drilling of potentially economic iron ore bodies. The work will consist of expanding existing trails into roads, new road construction, development of four borrow pits and the installation of culverts and bridges across 14-15 streams. The proponent has indicated that an Environmental Protection Plan will be submitted that considers all aspects of road construction activities as well as all activities associated with the subsequent drilling and exploration program. Road construction is scheduled to be completed during 2012-2013.

  • April 20, 2012 - The undertaking was registered.
  • May 29, 2012 - Public comments are due.
  • June 2, 2012 - The Minister's decision is due.
