Tilt Cove Mine Dump Pile

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent intends to excavate the Tilt Cove Mine Dump Pile located on the Baie Verte Peninsula which contains 48,000 tonnes of unconsolidated material. The material will be trucked 23 kilometres to Rambler’s hydrometallurgical gold mill and tailings facility, at Nugget Pond, to produce gold bars. The mining process will not entail excavation below the original topography of the Tilt Cove site. The project is scheduled to commence with excavation in June or July 2011 and will continue for eight to 12 weeks.

  • February 15, 2011 - The undertaking was registered.
  • March 22, 2011 - Public comments are due.
  • March 31, 2011 - The Minister's decision is due.
  • April 12, 2011 - The Minister announced that the project is released.
