Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent intends to operate a sand and gravel quarry near Labrador City, approximately 2.1 km northwest of the Trans Labrador Highway and 450 metres south of Huguette Lake. The operation will be approximately 2.5 hectares in size and will be developed adjacent to existing quarries in the area. Aggregate material will be crushed and screened at the site. Aggregate washing may also take place. No new access roads are required. The quarry will be used to supply aggregate material as needed in the Labrador City area and is expected to be in operation for approximately 10 weeks upon receipt of approval. Trucking processed aggregate from the site will occur over a longer period.

  • October 14, 2010 - Public comments are due.
  • October 24, 2010 - The Minister's decision is due.
  • March 3, 2011 - The undertaking was released.
