Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to construct a 125 metre long by 40 metre wide rubblemound breakwater in Harbour Breton on the south coast of Newfoundland. The breakwater will be constructed using a variety of materials including core stone, filter stone, and armour stone of varying sizes which will be transported to the site. The area upland to the breakwater will be leveled to provide access to the site as well as to develop a laydown and service area. Construction activities will be carried out using an excavator, dump trucks and manual labour and is expected to require 5 months to complete. Commencement of the project is subject to Small Craft Harbour Branch priorities and funding and regulatory approval.

  • August 5, 2010 - The undertaking was registered.
  • September 9, 2010 - Public comments are due.
  • September 19, 2010 - The Minister's decision is due.
  • Decmeber 12, 2013 - The Minister has announced that the project is released.
