Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

This proposal involves the development of an experimental cranberry farm in Forteau, southern Labrador. The site is located off Route 510 and the farm will be approximately one half acre in size. Work will be carried out over a four-year period. Construction and set up will be established in the first year and years 2-4 will be used for data collection and experimental work. Construction activities will include ditching, cranberry bed development, removal of vegetation, construction of irrigation and sediment ponds, and installation of water control structures and bed drainage tile. Sand, fertilizers and pesticides will be applied to the cranberry beds during operation. Harvesting of the cranberries includes flooding and removal with a mechanical harvester. The earliest construction date will be September 1, 2010, subject to approval.

  • Auguts 24, 2010 - The undertaking was released.
