Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proposal is to develop and operate a cranberry farm on land currently owned by the proponent in the Wooddale agricultural zone, six kilometres from New Bay Road, east of Grand Falls-Windsor. The site is primarily comprised of peat bog that had been drained and previously used for forage production. The total area of the proposal is 20 hectares, which includes 10 hectares of cranberry field beds developed over two years. Construction will consist of cranberry bed development, peat removal, berm construction, including farm service roads on the berms (six metres wide), construction of an irrigation/sediment pond, installation of water control structures, installation of drainage tile in the beds and placement of sand on new cranberry beds. Harvesting consists of flooding each field, dislodging the cranberries with a beater and gathering with a boom. The project is scheduled to commence upon approval.

  • July 15, 2009 - Public comments are due.
  • July 23, 2009 - The Minister's decision is due.
  • July 31, 2009 - The Minister Released the undertaking.
