Comfort Cove Mink Farm

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

  • Project Description: The proposal is to develop a mink farm located off Route 343, the road to Comfort Cove-Newstead. The land is adjacent to Indian Head and approximately 1.5 kilometres south of Indian Cove Neck Provincial Park . The operation will involve 10 000 female breeder animals. Construction will include 12-16 mink sheds, 400-600 feet long and 22 feet wide, 1 storage shed, 1200-1500 square feet, perimeter fencing, and a temporary manure storage area. The project is tentatively scheduled to begin in May, 2007.
  • April 11, 2007 - The undertaking was registered.
  • May 16, 2007 - Public comments are due.
  • May 25, 2007 - The Minister's decision is due.
  • June 8, 2007 - The Minister announced the project has been released from further environmental assessment review.
