Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

  • Project Description:

    The proponent proposes to construct a Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) storage facility at their Wabush Line Depot/Office in Labrador. The facility will be a new pre-engineered, pre-assembled metal building measuring approximately 4 metres in length, 3 metres wide, and 3 metres high. The building will have a secondary containment system incorporated into its design. The facility will accommodate PCB contaminated electrical equipment and transformers oil that has been removed from service in Hydro�s Transmission and Rural Operations (Labrador West) operating area. The installation and commissioning of the facility is tentatively scheduled to occur this September.

  • May 31, 2005 - The undertaking was registered.
  • July 6, 2005 - Public comments are due.
  • July 15, 2005 - The Minister's decision is due.
  • July 22, 2005 - The Minister announced the project has been released from further environmental assessment review.
