St. Bernard's Breakwater

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

  • Project Description:The proponent, proposes to construct a breakwater in the community of St. Bernard's on the south coast in Fox Cove, Fortune Bay. The rubblemound breakwater structure will measure approximately 115 metres long, out into the waters of Fox Cove, varying 20 metres to 50 metres in width along the ocean floor, with a crest width of 6 metres. The structure will be 5.5 metres high and be constructed of a variety of materials such as core stone, filter stone and armour stone.
  • June 15, 2004 - The undertaking was registered.
  • July 21, 2004 - Public comments are due.
  • August 6, 2004 - The Minister released the project from further environmental assessment.
