Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

  • Project Description:
    The proponent intends to amend two locations in Forest Management District 9:
    In Sops Lake (8 km southeast of Roberts Arm), 10,000 cubic metres of mature and overmature softwood will be harvested from a 130-hectare area requiring 3.5 km of new secondary and tertiary roads.
    In Black Ridge (6.5 km southwest of Middle Arm), 2,000 cubic metres of mature and overmature softwood will be harvested from a 40-hectare area requiring 2.5 km of new secondary and tertiary roads.
    The Amendment is required by commercial operators seeking to achieve their yearly allocation of sawlogs and pulpwood for 2004 and 2005.
  • March 16, 2004 - The undertaking was registered.
  • April 20, 2004 - Public comments are due.
  • May 14, 2004 - The Minister released the project from further environmental assessment.
