Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

  • The Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods proposes to amend the Five Year Operating Plan for silvicultural treatments. The treatments are necessary to provide flexibility in meeting strategic objectives outlined in the district management plan. The silviculture treatments involve widely practiced stand establishment, stem density management and vegetation competition control measures. Approximately 288 hectares of forest land will be treated. A variety of treatment types will be used, including precommercial thinning (78 ha), planting (120ha), plantation maintenance (25ha), stand improvement (pruning) (35 ha) and diameter limit thinning (30ha).
  • March 11, 2002 - The undertaking was registered.
  • May 3, 2002 - The Minister announced that the undertaking was released from further environmental assessment.
