The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador acknowledges that climate change is a serious environmental issue and that efforts are needed to stabilize and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Global climate change has become an international concern since the majority of scientists have concluded that human activities are leading to an increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHGs), and that this increase in gases is in fact impacting our global climate.
The Office of Climate Change, Energy Efficiency and Emissions Trading in Executive Council is the lead provincial department for climate change policy and strategy, while the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment is the lead agency for climate change program development. Both of these groups work together to provide cohesive policy and programming for climate change.
Employees in both the Office and the Water Resources Management Division work with other provincial and federal government departments, non-governmental organizations and industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. Dedicated team members are available to provide further assistance.
