Proponent:  Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent has submitted a proposal to expand an existing quarry to develop additional sand and gravel resources in an area approximately 2.5 kilometres northwest of the community of Swift Current on Route 210 and adjacent to Piper’s Hole River. The extension will add two hectares to the existing quarry site in an area heavily developed by other quarrying activities. Construction activities will include access upgrading, clearing, grubbing and pit development.  No new road construction will be required. Once operational, the quarry is intended to provide screened sand and gravel to local area customers and winter sand for highway depots.
