Logy Bay Road NORM Temporary Storage

Proponent:  Crosbie Industrial Services Limited

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

Crosbie Industrial Services Limited (CIS) is proposing to temporarily store low level Naturally Occurring Radiation Materials (NORM) originating from offshore oil and gas operations, for transport and disposal out of the province. The proposal indicates that only NORM in the Unrestricted Classification, as prescribed in Health Canada’s Guidelines for the Management of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials, 2011, will be stored and transported as part of this undertaking. NORM will be shipped from the offshore to St. John’s Harbour, where it will be collected and transported by CIS to its existing Waste Management Facility at Logy Bay Road in St. John’s.  NORM waste will be stored up to a maximum of one year, and transported by CIS outside the province for final disposal at an approved facility.
