Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to establish a facility to produce pressure treated lumber to market local businesses and consumers throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The facility will be located approximately five kilometres from the Trans Canada Highway intersection off Route 430 North on Incinerator Road in the Town of Deer Lake. The proposed facility will include an 18,000 square-foot treating plant and an adjacent 4,800 square-foot wood handling, sorting and manufacturing plant. Pressure treated lumber and other manufactured products will be produced using lumber purchased from local smalls and will be substituted with other supply only when material is not available locally. Construction of the proposed facility will begin upon issue of approvals with an anticipated construction period of six months.

  • April 26, 2012 - Public comments are due.
  • May 6, 2012 - The Minister's decision is due.
  • May 31, 2012 - The Minister announced that the project is released.
