Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

  • Project Description: The proponent proposes to construct a 15,000 female breeder mink fur farm near Lethbridge , Bonavista Peninsula . The proposed 43 hectare farm site is to be located off of Route 230, east of Sandy Cove. The proponent plans to start with 5,000 female breeders and expand to 15,000 female breeders producing approximately 75,000 kits annually. Construction will include up to 30 mink sheds/barns (122 metres long by 7 metres wide), storage shed and temporary manure storage in a 15 acre area surrounded by perimeter fencing. Construction is planned to start upon completion of the environmental assessment review and transfer of breeding stock in Fall 2006.
  • June 21, 2006 - The undertaking was registered.
  • July 26, 2006 - Public comments are due.
  • August 5, 2006 - The Minister's decision is due.
  • September 7, 2006 - The Minister announced the project has been released from further environmental assessment review, subject to conditions.
