Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

  • Project Description:
    The proponent proposes an amendment to its Forest Management District 9 Five Year Operating Plan 2001-2006. Forest Management District 9 is located on the north central region of the Island between Seal Bay and White Bay. The amendment applies to a proposed total timber harvest of 98,780 cubic meters covering an area of 1,097 hectares near Three Corner Pond, located to the northwest of Dawes Pond, in the Millertown Junction Area. An additional 6 kilometres of primary forestry road are planned for the amendment. Road construction and harvesting is scheduled to begin as early as June 1, 2005 and continue until December 31, 2006.
  • January 21, 2005 - The undertaking was registered.
  • February 28, 2005 - Public comments are due.
  • March 7, 2005 - The Minister's decision is due.
  • May 12, 2005 - The Minister announced the project has been released from further environmental assessment review.
